Thought this would help ease the tension for the day.  As I was looking for an original start for an new post when I  then realized that most if not all of the doomsday prophecies have been based on disasters we already know about.  So scrapped the idea for an original end idea for the day.

So thought it would be nice to explain how the idea that the Mayans predicted the end of the world started  and found this article on the  National Geographic website.  Figured since it was done so well there why mess with a good thing and just offer you the link.

End of World in 2012? Maya “Doomsday” Calendar Explained.

As with most warnings of doom  translation can be the cause of the daunting prophecy. The language translation needs to have a cultural translation along with it.  Unfortunately for long dead or small cultures that can take years if not decades to help clarify what might be just the reset, not the end, of a calendar. So as stated before being prepared for the end can just mean being prepared for the end in your particular world.  That does not make it any less true for all the supplies and knowledge that is needed, but it does hold out hope that the entire civilized world will not be resting on your shoulders, just the civility of you.
