To Close for Comfort….

I was traveling the winds of the internet when I happened on a story by The Onion about how the Earth will not be able to continue supporting the growing population.  Or in their terms “Scientists: ‘Look, One-Third Of The Human Race Has To Die For Civilization To Be Sustainable, So How Do We Want To Do This?’“.

Yes I know The Onion is a satirical news site but that does not mean that it has no underlying truth in it.  Considering all the fears most of us have when storing our supplies for when an event happens, one of our chief worries is will we have enough.  That is doubly felt when wondering who knows about our stash and will they be mooching off those who are better prepared.  So even though most people are aware that my family and I like to be as self-reliant as possible, they do not know about the supplies I have stored away in the back of my basement, where wandering eyes won’t see them.  It is not because I am afraid of the ridicule that can come along with prepping but for the fear that if my family is prepared and the one down the street isn’t, how can I keep my family safe from being the kind souls that we want to be.

Right now I have to admit to being lucky about no prying eyes as we just moved to a small little village in the mountains of Ohio.  So we don’t know many of our neighbors yet as we have only been here a few months. But I am still vigilant in making sure that my supplies are kept where no one should see them.  My hope is since my new home is of a rural bent it will not be such an issue as it was when I lived in a major metropolitan area. Overpopulation is a real concern in our world today and pretending that there is not a need for loss of life for both the human population and the Earth to be a healthier place is just keeping the blinders on.

Now I am not advocating for an apocalyptic event but nature and/or fate has a way addressing issues that will ultimately destroy this planet we call home. So being prepared is a way to tilt the odds in our direction.  Secrecy about the extent of our readiness is essential to making sure that we are the ones that chose who we share our hard work with.

Today’s survival tip keep your supplies in an out of the way place if possible.
